Unlike a TV, an SMD screen does not come in fixed sizes. It is built from modules and cabinets, so you can choose almost any width and height. This guide explains how sizing works and how to pick the right pixel pitch.
How SMD Screen Sizes Work
- Module: the smallest LED panel. A common module size is 320 × 160 mm.
- Cabinet: a frame that holds several modules plus the power supply and receiving card. Common sizes include 500 × 500 mm and 500 × 1000 mm for rental and indoor screens, and 960 × 960 mm for outdoor screens.
- Screen: cabinets joined together. Your screen’s size is a multiple of the cabinet size, for example 6 × 3 cabinets of 500 × 500 mm make a 3 m × 1.5 m screen.
Pixel Pitch and Viewing Distance

A simple rule: the closest viewer should stand at least as many metres away as the pixel pitch in millimetres. For example, about 3 m for a P3 screen.
How to Work Out Resolution
Divide the screen width and height (in mm) by the pixel pitch.
- A P3 screen 3,000 mm wide has 3,000 ÷ 3 = 1,000 pixels across.
- A P10 screen 6,000 mm wide has 6,000 ÷ 10 = 600 pixels across.
A higher pixel count gives more detail, but it also costs more. Choose the pitch that looks sharp from where your audience stands.

Indoor or Outdoor?
Indoor SMD screens use a finer pitch and lower brightness. Outdoor SMD screens use a larger pitch, 5,000+ nits brightness and IP65 weatherproof cabinets.
What About Price?
